Russia`s Alrosa sells $36 mln in diamonds
Alrosa sold diamonds worth $36 million at a global auction in Moscow, the press service of Russia`s largest diamond producer said Wednesday.
The international auction of special-size rough diamonds organized by Alrosa and the Diamond Chamber of Russia sold a total of 120 lots. Sixty-one Russian and foreign companies bid in the auction, which offered 632 diamonds with total weight of over 11,400 carats, the largest of them being 274.37 carats. The next auction will be held later this month.
Alrosa, which accounts for 25% of global diamond output, reported earnings of $2.86 billion last year. Its shareholders are the Federal Property Fund (37%), legal entities (23%), and authorities in diamond-rich Yakutia region (8%).
